WASHINGTON— Today, the House of Representatives unanimously approved of H.Res. 599, urging the European Union to designate Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) lead the resolution, which passed markup in the Foreign Affairs Committee on October 19th. Schneider led debate on the House Floor before the vote. The bill was co-led by Congressman Gus Bilirakis (FL-12).
“For years, Iran has been complicit in Hamas’s terrorism in Israel. Iran has built Hezbollah, the region’s most powerful terrorist organization. Democrats and Republicans alike have said for many years: Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. We must leave all options on the table in preventing it from obtaining a nuclear weapon. I am proud to help lead the House in affirming this policy,” said Schneider. “The European Union cannot ignore Iran-backed Hezbollah’s menacing presence in the Middle East, its terrorist efforts outside the region, and its exploitation of global financial networks to fund its nefarious activities. As we look at Hezbollah skirmishing with Israel and loudly supporting Hamas, I hope our European partners will take today’s bill as a wakeup call—Hezbollah is a terrorist organization and must be designated as such in its entirety.”
